From a young age, I can remember sitting in front of different works of art hanging on the walls of my childhood home, attempting to recreate them in my notebooks with colored pencils. For me, art has always been a constant.
I am an architectural designer from Washington, D.C. I’ve been drawn to art my whole life for its ability to communicate experiences and evoke emotion.
In much of my artwork I explore the juxtaposition of gestural and rigid forms. As I have progressed as an artist, my work emphasizes line quality and composition. I have grown to favor pieces with distinct linework that functions to guide the viewer through the piece.
Through my work as an architectural designer, I have better understood the importance of composition and its effect on the comprehension of a peice. With a strong composition I’ve found the experience or emotion I aim to convey to viewers is clearly understood.
Art has taught me to see the world differently, understanding that design creates the framework for the way we as humans function daily. Art gives me the ability to understand and analyze the world around me and I will continue to create for the rest of my life.
“Art is the most intense mode of individualism the world as ever known” - Oscar Wilde
